Bank mandate UPDATE

Just a reminder of my previous post from 5th March.

To be clear - this document will be part of the OFFER PACK (so to be clear, we are not sending these in advance, only with the offer pack. So that’s why you haven’t got one yet!)

You need to have the sort code and account number of the account you want the money paid into ready - this must be completed by you and be an account that has your name on it - even if a joint account.

It does not have to be the account used for payroll. Probably better if it was an account that earns interest especially for those who have a claim going back to 2007 and do a lot of hours. If you haven’t got one yet it might be worth investigating and get one open and ready.

1 BANK MANDATE

One of the things people sometimes don’t appreciate is the sheer scale of the administration that this settlement is going to involve -there are 16000 offers to send with each pack about 20 pages long or 320000 pages to collate and stuff into envelopes

One of our biggest problems is folk NOT COMPLETING THE FORMS CORRECTLY

Our experience is that up to 20% of you get it wrong. Here that would be over 3000 of you having to re do the forms.

If you don’t get it right you won’t get paid.

We are going to try and help avoid these mistakes

TIP 1 - READ THE LETTER FIRST. So many just go to the numbers and signature page.

TIP 2 TAKE IT SLOW: GET IT RIGHT.

TIP 3 SEND BACK ALL THE RIGHT DOCUMENTS

TIP 4 DO NOT TEAR OFF THE SIGNATURE PAGE you must return both settlement agreements in full. This is the most common mistake. When we ask why they usually say - oh I didn’t read all the letter - see Tip 1.

TIP 5 - DONT SIGN FOR THE EMPLOYER only sign your bit. Don’t ask a manager to sign - it will be signed for GCC by their legal department after you return the forms.

One of the documents you will need to send back is a BANK MANDATE.

POINT 1 - you have to fill in the bank details - that is SORT CODE and ACCOUNT NUMBER. This is the account into which the money will go. Get it wrong and you might NOT get your money. Someone else might. You would be amazed how many people get their national insurance numbers wrong when they write them down. They get them right in their head or over the phone but get it wrong when they write it down.

POINT 2 - It has to be an account IN YOUR NAME - not account in husband / wives name, nor other relatives. If you want to hide it from relatives get a new account set up now. JOINT BANK ACCOUNTS ARE FINE as long as you are one of the accounts holders

POINT 3 - it can be any account. It doesn’t need to be the account your wages go into. You might want to set up an interest bearing account especially if it has interest bonuses.

POINT 4 - don’t forget to SIGN IT.

This is just the first of several documents you will need to sign and return - there will be :

2 SETTLEMENT AGREEMENTS
A CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT
A DATA CHECK SHEET
BANK MANDATE

Get any of these wrong and we have to start again.

You will only get paid 28 Days after we return correct forms to the council, not the date you sign nor the date you send stuff back to us. So minimum period from offer to payments is 6 weeks, but will often be longer.

This stuff is boring but vital. Get it wrong means no payment.

Any questions?

Stefan
