UPDATE - NOT MUCH TO UPDATE
It was correctly pointed out that we said we would update you every week.
Ahh promises, promises.....
Well the update is there is isn’t much to update.
There isn’t any more really bad news but not much positive news either. In fact not much news at all really.
Nothing yet from HMRC but no further delay reported so all quiet on that front.
The lawyers on the claimant group have spent most of the week going back and forth with rewording of documentation. Yawn. The good news is that I think all the documentation is now agreed.
The biggest change was to the bank mandate. The council insisted that the wanted dates of birth added if you wanted to use a different account to that used for wages. As usual Karl Bromley came to the rescue and this is now going to be automatically included.
The biggest annoyance has been intransigence from officials. They very helpfully sent us the list of debts. Great, I thought, we can at least let the affected claimants know and challenge if the numbers are incorrect. Oh no GCC said. You can’t do that. We haven’t got anyone who can deal with staff queries. And any challenges have to be via the formal disputes mechanism (this will lead to at least 3 months delay in getting payment). So we’ve got the information but they won’t let us do anything with it. Absolutely typical.
There have been several such skirmishes.
In the meantime we wait for the green light from hmrc.
There’s a claimant meeting on Tuesday where hopefully we can agree the way forward on dates, roadshows etc.
